2014...

So it's the end of February for the year 2014. Wait, is it a leap year? I think not.

And so the blog was abandoned for a little while.

Okay, I was lazy and the somehow the ease of posting photos wasn't so easy after all. That made sense when Instagram was discovered and a whole chunk of photo posting madness went over.

Let's try to put more words & photos in this year then.

Stay close!

Hidden Away - Josh Groban

Over mountains and sky blue seas
On great circles, will you watch for me?
The sweetest feeling I've got inside
I just can't wait to get lost in your eyes

And all these words that you meant to say
Held in silence day after day
Words of kindness that our poor hearts crave
Please, don't keep them hidden away

Sing it out so I can finally breathe in
I can take in all the same
Holding out for something I believe in
All I really need today

I want to free your heart, I want to see your heart
Please, don't keep your heart hidden away

You're a wonder, how bright you shine
A flickered candle in a short lifetime
A secret dreamer that never shows
If no one sees you then nobody knows

And all these words you were meant to say
Held in silence day after day
Words of kindness that our poor hearts crave
Please, don't keep them hidden away

Sing it out so I can finally breathe in
I can take in all the same
Reaching out for someone I believe in
All I really need today

I want to feel your love, will you reveal your love?
Please, don't keep your love hidden away
I want to free your heart, I want to see your heart
Please, don't keep your heart hidden away

Kind of Peace - Faithless featuring Cat Power

Being here in the darkness, starless sky
It's quieter than a church before the crowds arrive
And the world is mine
And no one else sees with my thanks and love in my thoughts
And wishes to give and to ask
It's a kind of peace

It's a kind of peace
It's a kind of peace
It's a kind of peace
With the years doors have been locked and windows closed
And the things I'm sure I knew are no longer due
But I see comfort in my home in my heart
To make a kind of peace
It's a kind of peace

And above me
If there is nothing and no one knew I really care
It's just a now, a now I prefer
Not the future and not the past
So put the chairs to one side and let us dance
It's a strange kind of peace
It's a kind of peace
It's a strange kind of peace
It's a kind of peace

Being here in the darkness, starless sky
It's quieter than a church before the crowds arrive
And the world is mine
And no one else sees with my thanks and love in my thoughts
And wishes to give and to ask
It's a kind of peace

It's a kind of peace

Earphones update

I still have quite a number of earphones/headphones that I use often. The last update was about a year back HERE so I guess it's time to refresh the list!

1. The Phillips earphone bought in Sydney is still around but one side is gone. Will be using it for rides till it goes.

2. Not been using this much lately but it's still alive I presume

3. Still loving this

4. My running buddy

5. Killed quite a number of Apple earphones along the way.

6. Latest kid in town. Received this sporty Phillips earphones as a gift and just started using it. Using it for commute on public transport.

Let's Make It Rain - Colbie Caillat

Nice song, live version but sound system ain't that fantastic.

I don't care what they say
Cause I have seen when we run we make it rain
Let's keep going for miles
Playin under the stormy darkened skies
Can you be mine?

Push me to the wall let them see baby I don't care at all
I'm not letting this go
Like a flower breaking through we've grown
Together now

I don't care what they say cause I have seen when we run we make it rain
There's nothing better than this
I'll keep wanting you for just one more kiss
So make it rain

When the world makes me tired, and my mind feels
Like it was set on fire, you look at me and smile,
With your brown eyes you call my heart and
I can breath again.

I don't care what they say cause I have seen when we run we make it rain
There's nothing better than this
I'll keep wanting you for just one more kiss
So make it rain

I've waited for you to come
Maybe this is not the right time
Maybe we'll hold off for just a little while
Until you're mine

I don't care what they say
I have seen when we run we make it rain
There's nothing better than this
I'll keep wanting you for just one more kiss
Can you be mine?

Cause I don't care what they say
Cause I have seen when we run we make it rain
There's nothing better than this
I'll keep wanting you for just one last kiss
Can you be mine?
Can you be mine?
Can you be mine?
Ohh now you're mine

Distance - Christina Perri (feat Jason Mraz)

Catchy tune! Enjoy the duet.

The sun is filling up the room, and I can hear you dreaming.
Do you feel the way I do? Right now.
I wish we would just give up, 'cause the best part is falling.
Call it anything but love.

And I will make sure to keep my distance.
Say I love you when you're not listening.
And how long can we keep this up, up, up?

Please don't stand so close to me;
I'm having trouble breathing.
I'm afraid of what you'll see right now.
I give you everything I am, all my broken heartbeats, until I know you'll understand.

And I will make sure to keep my distance.
Say I love you when you're not listening.
And how long can we keep this up, up, up?

And I keep waiting for you to take me.
You keep waiting to save what we have.

So I'll make sure to keep my distance.
Say I love you when you're not listening.
And how long can we keep this up, up, up?

Make sure to keep my distance.
Say I love you when you're not listening.
How long 'till we call this love, love, love?

Lullaby - One Republic

Days feel harder, night grows longer
Summer says its goodbyes
Darkness covers, we find shelter
Our own place to hide

Oh as the light goes out
Thoughts turn to angels on the run
Oh as the night comes in
Dreams start their drifting and you hear a lullaby
Lullaby
You and I

Trees touch windows say their hellos
Hear this house as it settles in
Worry slips away it don't know your name
It don't know where to find us

Oh as the light goes out
Thoughts turn to angels on the run
Oh as the night comes in
Dreams start their drifting and you hear a lullaby
A lullaby
You and I, you and I

Fire over water

There was an installation art over at Bedok Reservoir over the weekend. It was supposed to be by some famous artist. I did not find it very fascinating though... I think the locals still do not know how to appreciate such art.

Sandy sings

Sandy held her concert in Hong Kong over the weekend. Too bad I wasn't able to be there, else it'll be a spectacular weekend I reckoned. Nevertheless, she sings awesome. Here is her, a few years back.

Electra

Electricity is something to be awed at. It lit up the skies tonight in the form of lightning. Rock on!

A ride to the west

WAKE UP!
... screamed my alarm clock at 5.30am on a sleepy Sunday.

So early? Yes, I am going for a ride!
The group is meeting at 7.30am at Lakeside MRT so I intended to take a really slow ride there. The route I am taking will be about 32km (a shorter route of 27km is available but I don't feel like going left, right, left).

Got out of the house at 5.45am and rode slowly. The skies looked a little red and the rain did start to fall when I reached Raffles Place. Before that, when I rode past Fullerton, there were some drunk teenagers outside Butter Factory, all wasted and lying on the floor.

The drizzle got a little heavy but heck, I am halfway there so no point turning back.

More drunks near Vivocity spotted. Oh, St. James.
Then this chap in a car yelled at me from the car his friend was driving.
"Hello good morning! It's raining!"
I smiled back and said it was okay. (more like no choice... haha)

West Coast Highway is such a longwinded and boring road. Finally spotted the sign for Jurong Town Hall Road and made a right turn. More boring roads till I saw the Science Center.

Huffing and puffing away (was about 5mins late), I rode past Chinese Garden MRT. Then a voice whispered, "Good morning Maam!"

It was KC! He waited at the wrong station and luckily for him, he saw me puffing by so he followed me.

Lots of riders were already there when I finally got there. The rain was still falling gently.

After a short prayer and a minute of silence for a fellow rider, Paul Lim, we proceeded for our Sunday ride. We went past some lake, I spotted the Chinese Garden and I tagged along the sweeper of the day, Stanley, at the back of the pack.

We had a short brekky at a newly opened MacDonald's (it has a drive thru too!) and headed towards an interesting place. The Dragon Kiln, is one of the last few surviving pottery place called Thow Kwang Pottery.

We were introduced to the kiln which uses wood to fire up and the Dragon Kiln only 'works' twice a year. Usually, the modern-day electricity brother will do the job. I spoke to the owner who said they have pottery classes and don't really create wares for commercial use anymore.

The electricity brother

They might be gone soon because the Government is taking back the land so if that happens, it sure is a big shame.
We were allowed into the Dragon Kiln for a look see too!

After a nice tour and short break, we had to work our asses off when we entered NTU. Why?
SLOPES LAH!

Thank goodness I chose to ride my MTB and not a SingleSpeed else I might have to push the bike up the slopes! Never ending. Luckily I wasn't a NTU student else I think I might just quit school on the first day!

The day ended at a food centre somewhere in Boon Lay (totally not familiar with the West) and I refueled with 2 cans of isotonic drinks plus 1 bowl of wontons.

I was planing to ride back alone but some guys were going back to the East so I was supposed to follow them. However they set off first so I lost them within 2 minutes. Francis, who was supposed to hop onto the MRT, rode with me instead. He was very kind to do that and showed me Alexandra PCN. Before that, Vince rode together until he reached Commonwealth. We managed to snake out from Zion Rode and then cut through Robertson Quay until we reached Victoria Street.

The ride cut through Bugis, Geylang (almost fainted from durians) and I powered up the Kembangan slope. By the time I got home, I managed to clock in 90km. Wooopeee!

More rides to come!

Skinny Pizzazza!

I got a treat at Skinny Pizza!

Went to their outlet at Wheelock Place and got a table after a ten-minute wait. Decided what to order while standing in the queue did help with the speed of the food that was served later on.

The skinny manager/host explained politely what the set meal was about and took the order. Basically you get ONE Skinny Pizza, TWO bowls of soup, ONE side dish and TWO soft drinks.

Ordered:
Salami Pizza with Feta Cheese (sorry forgot the name) x 1
Portobello Mushroom soup x 1, Sweet Corn Crab soup x 1
1/4 metre long sausage x 1
Rude Root Beer x 2

Noticed that their surrounds are very eco-friendly and many things seemed to be recycled. They used cardboards as signage, planks + metal pipes as chairs/tables which I thought it was real cool!

Food arrived in no time. The pizza's not bad, very crispy.

The yummy sausage wasn't too bad and I almost wanted to hide the tin that came with it. According to one of the signs, they have a $25 1-metre-long sausage... wow.

The food did not seems to be a lot in the beginning but as you stuffed yourself silly with soup, sausage and pizza then followed by the soft drink, your tummy gets filled up quite fast!

The staff were quite polite and efficient so at least it was pleasant to eat there.

Try them someday! There are so many different types of pizza on their menu!

Alone

No doubt there are a million wonderful reasons when you stay with your folks, I am not refuting that. But there are also a couple of equally awesome points to why staying alone can be a good thing.

1. Things that go missing will stay missing!
If you stay alone, you will probably know where you left your favourite spoon. You used it to make some coffee about one week ago, washed it and left it to dry on the rack. Now that you want to use it again, it goes missing. Possible culprits would be your folks who 'misplaced' it as they have their own ways of packing stuff. Now you'll have to ask them nicely where they hid it.

2. Things have legs and will move about!
The drawback of staying alone is that you have no one to ask for help if you really can't find a certain item. However, if there is someone else, the tendency of the item shifting about is much higher. Muscles have memories, if you have heard. When you are taking a shower, you will automatically reach for the conditioner bottle which is supposed to be in it's usual position, top shelf, on the right. You pumped it a couple of times and slapped it on your hair, to find the fragrance of the 'conditioner' smelling vaguely like your liquid body soap. Voila! There you go, you have just washed your hair twice because someone replaced the conditioner bottle!
