malim nawar

my grandpa owns a little grocery store in a little town.

malim nawar is the little town where my dad grew up. every year, we will visit. this year, i decided to take some pictures.

the shophouse used to be a couple of streets from where it is now. when the lease was over, they had to move to a new place. it used to be nice and old where the stairs were creaky and you see rice sacks piling high up. as the world got modernised, so did the shop. well... not so much really.

sleepy town, nothing much going on


isn't it nice to have a drive-thru fruit stall?



since we arrived in the late afternoon and with some time to spare, me and sis decided to go explore. take some pictures.
of course when i say explore, it really means that i am the one cycling while she's the one just going along for the ride. pedal!

then we went to the other end of town, where residents reside just next to an old power station. in the middle of it, a playground.



the next day, we went up to Ipoh to have lunch and stopped by a couple of places.

first to a big temple.
to wish for luck. can you see my sister trying to land a coin on a rooster?


next we made a quick pomelo stop... sorry i meant PIT stop. grabbed some pomeloes/pomelos (whichever), pose and went off.




singapore has a durian, ipoh has pomelo. way to go!



then we headed for another temple/cave.

since i was bored, i experimented.

headed back after that.
and then i found out my cousin just bought a bike cos he just got his license. he offered a mini tour and of course i couldn't resist.

we scooted around




according to him (and the rest of town), this tower was built by the japanese during the world war two. it still remains but they cannot figure what it was being used for. some say to store ammunition, some say to burn stuff.
now it still stands, after 50 over years and is surrounded by residents.


the evenings here are nice and cool. mountains surround this area and can be seen in the background.





cats are a common sight. they used to have full time cats but nowadays, only part timers remain. this pretty cat is the current one. she's really timid. looks young but my uncle said she's had at least 5 litters already.

food trail

2007, November, one fine saturday....

i took part in a car rally, the food trail type. team of three.

started off at mitsubishi alexandra showroom.

decided to use L's car since it's manual which means flexibility in speed and with L's skills, i doubt we have any problems overtaking tortoises.

well since it was a food trail, we decided not to eat too much for breakfast in case they want us to gobble food down. ha. turned out to be stuff related to food. and not eating them.

didnt take any photos during the 'race' since we were busy looking for directions and shoo-ing each other to complete tasks.

first stop- poison ivy's. J almost fainted when she saw a cabbage lying there for the challenge. "don't tell me i have to eat it!" exclaimed the vege hater.
luckily, we only had to peel it. chey. for once, i thought i get to see J eat veg.

second stop- dozo restaurant at alexandra. had to drive all the way back from the north where poison ivy was. not too difficult to find. challenge was a blindfold tea test. not too bad, got to eat some simple jap fare after that.

third stop-jerry's bbq at jalan kayu. we went to the wrong place at first cos we were too ambitious. anyway, the challenge was to gobble down three super chilli chicky wings by two persons in i think... 3mins. hahah. the moment i looked at the wings, i backed off by at least 200metres. luckily for my two friends, they sacrificed themselves. burn~~~

fourth stop-artz pizza at singa inn. always wanted to try their oven baked, thin crust pizza. however, i had to roll up my sleeves and pin roll pizza dough to a certain size for the challenge. the reward was great though, pizza! yay. although it was cold already. must go back for hot pizza soon.

pit stop-back to showroom. well..... we are not the fastest so too bad, no prizes. pretty fun to spend an afternoon and a shot at a plasma tv.
