And so I left off the story where I went to Toshogu Shrine.
Anyway, after Toshogu Shrine, headed towards Futarasan Shrine 二荒山神社 which is next door.
pretty
according to the signboard, this is how earth looks like, from the heavens.
and these steps, lead to a hidden shrine
so cute! i want one~
this is CC Lemon. my favourite drink. taste like Orangina, but fizzy lemon version. costs 99yen in the Japanese supermarkets, which is about $1.30sgd (rate when I went to Japan). You can still find this in the Jap supermarket in SG but it costs about $3.50sgd.
eki-ben = 駅弁 which means train-box-meal. You get this on the train or at the stations, to eat on the trains.
After about 2.5 hours of train ride from Nikko, we reached our apartment in Tokyo. It is a weekly mansion for they only take in people who stay at least a week. Quite cheap. This is Kurumi Mansion by the way. Not too out of the way but not really in town either. Space wise, quite all right.
view from the balcony. Kurumi Mansion overlooks the Sumida River 隅田川 in Tokyo.
Headed out for Akihabara 秋葉原, the equivalent of SG's Sim Lim Square. You will find plenty of shops selling the latest electronics and all sorts of gadgets that will dazzle you. Also, you can find many manga shops selling anything remotely connected to manga 漫画 = comics.
Japanese are a bunch of well mannered people, to a certain extent. At least they bother to queue up at the platform, while waiting for the subway to come. At least the theory of first come first served works here.
On the way back, decided to save a lil money for dinner so headed for the supermarkets. Japanese food hall will discount the food that they cannot or they deemed not sellable items at the end of the day. I hate to waste food and so do they. So they will slash the prices of the food. Here is my heavily discounted dinner. Mushroom rice.
From 630yen to 530yen to 350yen. Almost half priced and the quantity is actually huge!
Oh, had to pair it with a can of autumn special Kirin beer of course.
Bought myself a carton of Japanese milk. Quite creamy.
Breakie the next day was bought at the nearest convenience store. The weekly mansion did not provide breakie like the business hotels or regular ryokans. So you will see how creative my breakie will be. This is actually very nice, it is like a hot dog bun stuffed with egg mayo. Oh my. And of course, they have to have a weird name, like EGG DOG.
Anyway, this is one of the bridge we have to cross in order to get to the subway station.
This is Ueno Park.
meow.
We were making our way to the museum actually where we chanced upon a lil flea market. Told myself I will not buy rubbish.
Tokyo National Museum.
I was surprised that they allowed photography inside the museum. Of course certain fragile exhibits are still not allowed to be photographed, either for privacy reasons or that flash photography will deteriorate the items.
The museum is huge and spacious. Look!
Since the museum is near Ueno, we have to go to Ueno Station. And to go shopping! This is a pedestrian crossing at Ueno. JR runs above.
Had lunch. Ah! Another of my favourite food. Omu-rice = オムライス= Omelette Rice. Need I say more...
Visited the famous Asakusa where the big red lanterns are.
Little shops along the way before you hit the temple.
This is Sensoji Temple 浅草寺
Everytime I come here, I MUST visit my senbei 煎餅 shop where they have the delicious soya-painted biscuits.
yum! check out the previous trip! HERE
Just scroll to bottom and you will see my eating senbei with Kyoko!
This will be a shopper's haven. Ameyoko-cho. Where they sell anything from fresh seafood to Nike sneakers.
It was Autumn when I was there. Oh gosh. I really love autumn and winter, especially if I get to wear boots! LOOK!
