Japan in Autumn, Part Six

next up!

where was i? oh ended Part Five with dinner at the ryokan. next up. we had breakie. another wonderfull (literally) experience.

breakie for two.

onsen egg. meaning, hot spring cooked egg. oh gosh, so delicious.

salad, with the freshest vege.

little dishes

including pickles

that were served with glorious white rice

not forgetting the unforgettable natto (fermented beans)

after breakie, we packed and left the place. which was a really fantastic experience.

took a bus to reach Noboribetsu Station 登別駅

tried a mini minute maid

and had fast food for lunch!

finally we reached Hakodate Station 函館駅

there are trams still running in the city, likewise in many other cities of Japan

slopes of Hakodate

what's up doc?

you queue up, for the tram, no matter what

old warehouses, converted into shopping malls

it drizzled for a while but there was still rain hanging around. then the sun came out. then you get TWO rainbows!

went back to the red brick warehouse later in the evening

took a ropeway up to Mt. Hakodate for the famous night scene, one of the top three in Japan.

dinner time!

not forgetting the sake

katsu curry rice = deep fried pork cutlet curry rice

the morning of Hakodate. i think this wasn't taken by me. too early. ha.

went to the market. fresh produce.
potatoes!

corns! huge onions! sweet melons!

"look out for us, we are just lying around"

fresh seafood.
crab, sea urchin, scallops

even fresher seafood. swimming squids. a first for me.

my grand breakie! heavenly~
ikura-don = salmon roe with rice

just outside the breakie shop, where you can choose what you want

crabs that will cost at least twice as much in Sin

of course the market has dried produce as well

hopped on a Limited Express Super Hakucho which travels from Hakodate to Aomori, using the undersea tunnel between the island of Hokkaido and Honshu, the main land.

along the way, before leaving Hokkaido

arrived at Aomori Station 青森駅

macdonald's for lunch. they had to send the burger and fries because they were not ready and when the fries arrived, it looked warm and cosy. all wrapped up.

oh oh this is McPork. need i say more?

went sightseeing

croquette curry rice for dinner! woo. i love croquette.

in Japan, they will give you a whole bucket of water. partially because the wait staff don't want you to bug them anymore and also because it is just easier not to have to keep serving customers.

stayed at one of the Toyoko Inn and this is their standard breakie. miso soup with onigiri.

going to Lake Towada 十和田湖 and only accessible by bus. this is a JR bus, free ride using the JR Pass.

byebye Aomori City

hello, whatever mountain

a weird stopover. free tea. tea that gives you longevity, three times more.

after arriving at Lake Towada, we went for lunch.
not forgetting my Asahi

that goes with the delicious Oyako don (egg & chicken rice)

since we were at Lake Towada, why not take a slow relax cruise on the lake.

the boat reached another point of the lake and we got off, to start walking along the beautiful Oirase Stream 奥入瀬

back to the minshuku 民宿 where we will stay for the night

ancient coin tv

this is autumn, in Japan

because it rained, my shoes got wet and i refused to wear it. decided to be brave and wear my flip flops instead. almost froze my toes.

took a stroll to the lakeside before dinner

can you see us?

dinner served at the minshuku.
this is matsudake rice. matsudake 松茸 = pine mushroom

overview of my dinner

sashimi of some fish the owner caught

vegetables

not forgetting my Asahi

did not have any clue what this is. tasted like cha-siew or chicken

more food

it was a quiet day. the autumn season just started and there were only three guests. us and another lady.

nigori, a kind of cloudy sake

snack time! yes, after dinner.
